A properly functioning built environment requires: sustainable management of property, efficient water and waste systems, sufficient water resources, smooth and safe transportation, as well as advanced collection and management of spatial data. Sustainable land use solutions help to create human-centered built environment for living, business and people flow.
The department's research and education are focused on fields that are continuing to grow in societal significance. Research tackles grave societal challenges faced by human societies, such as population growth, urbanisation, climate change, globalisation, digitalisation and the growing consumption of natural resources.
